I scored this film working with Lisa Gerrard giving voice to Ichi the blind female warrior.  Set in mythical time, I wanted the music to be epic and timeless, yet fragile enough to reflect Ichi’s delicate personal journey.  This time-lapse sequence occurs in the middle of the film, detailing her journey from a child sold into slavery to becoming the most revered warrior in Japan.

The passage of ime is signified through a regular arpeggiated piano/harpsichord motif, whilst her tragedy and triumph, growth and betrayal are defined through the alternating use of major and minor 4th chords.

The small bell is a device used throughout the film as her inner guide.  Soundtrack released by Sony Music.
